What is asylum?

If you have left your country and can not return because you fear persecution there, you can claim asylum in the UK. You should claim upon arrival to the UK or as early as possible as you can.

Asylum seekers must be able to demonstrate that they fear persecution under one of the 5 grounds. These are race, religion, nationality, political opinion or member of a particular social group. If you do not fit under the grounds for asylum, you may be able to aply for humanitarian protection instead.
